How to work with the dialog?
- Listen to the dialogue and read the PDF transcript. Turn on subtitles if necessary.
- Listen to the dialogue again, repeating the questions and answers aloud (!!!).
- Come up with your own answers to the questions. Use PDF vocabulary if needed.
- Listen to the questions and answer them aloud (!!!), with a correct intonation, pronunciation and rhythm.
- Go back to the video from time to time and repeat the exercise.
Talking about the USA
(1) What was the last news story you heard about the USA?
Trump has lost the election. Joseph Biden has become a new president.
(2) What do you think the USA’s neighbours think of it?
The USA doesn’t have many neighbours. Only Canada and Mexico, if I’m not mistaken . I think they get on well with each other.
(3) What do you think the USA will be like 50 years from now?
I don’t know. 50 years is too long. Everything can happen.
(4) Does your country have good relations with the USA?
Not really. I wish they were better than they are now.
(5) What could you do on a holiday in the USA?
I would love to travel around the country. I would visit Washington city, Florida, Texas, the Grand Canyon and other places. It would be a wonderful holiday.
(6) What is your idea of a typical American person?
A friendly and pleasant person, that smiles a lot.
(7) What things about the USA do you think Americans are proud of?
I don’t know. It’s better to ask them about it.
(8) What do you know about American culture?
I think they have many different cultures mixed together, because the United States was built on immigration from other countries.
(9) What would you like to ask an American about the USA? –
I would ask him what he likes and dislikes in the USA.
